Customer Review: Thanks to Pyrex, Bachelor Cooking Is Easy And Fun
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I'm a conservative bachelor who loves the feeling of achievement that comes with cooking for oneself. However, because I work three jobs, I don't have much time. My Revere stainless steel set of pots and skillets was looking rather worn after nearly twenty-five years of usage. Therefore, I felt very blessed to receive the new set from Pyrex.

The pots and skillets are very beautiful; my mom would die for them. Most importantly, cooking is easier and clean up is a breeze. One of the first things I did after receiving my Pyrex stainless steel was to buy heat resistant silicone spoontula and spatula to use on the 8" and 10" skillets. I didn't want to scratch their Teflon coating. A metal spoon will damage it very quickly.

The first side dish I prepared was macaroni and cheese, which is the staple of any bachelor`s diet. I made it in the perfectly sized 2-quart pot. A measuring gradient inside the pot made it convenient for adding six cups of water for boiling the macaroni noodles. No measuring cup was needed. The long, thick heat resistant handle doubles as a spoon rest. After the noodles finished boiling, I didn't need to find my colander. All the pots have pour spouts for draining; simply set the tempered glass lid on the pot, tilt the pot and allow the liquid to pour out of the spout. This is my favorite feature.

Scrambled eggs and fried turkey bacon are my favorite breakfast food. I also like to eat them for dinner. For several nights I ate eggs and bacon because fixing them in the Teflon coated skillets was so easy. The eggs never stuck. Cleaning the skillets seemed magical compared to how I use to scrub them.

The large 10" skillet was a godsend whenever I fried turkey meat (I don't eat beef) for my chili, spaghetti and Hamburger Helper Turkey Stroganoff. The meat never burned or stuck to the skillet and using the lid and pour spouts made the grease easy to drain into a glass jar. Also, for the stroganoff, the glass lid made it convenient for watching it simmer; I could turn the heat down if it looked as though the liquid was on the verge of boiling out of the skillet. Thanks to the glass lids, I don't have to worry as much about pots boiling over. I simmered Uncle Ben's Rice Pilaf for my chili in the 1.5-quart pot. I boiled the spaghetti noodles in the large 6-quart pot. Using the glass lid and the 6-quart pot, I steamed asparagus as a side dish for my turkey stroganoff. While the stroganoff was simmering, the notched lid made it easy to stand the lid upright on the skillet's rim whenever I needed to stir the ingredients.

Sometimes I come home from work very tired; nothing perks me up better than hot chocolate. I used the 1-quart pot for warming soy milk almost to the point of boiling before adding it to a mug with unsweetened cocoa powder and stevia, a natural sweetener. Even the burnt soy milk was easy to clean from the bottom of the pot. I would merely let the pot soak with water for a few hours before scrubbing it with a soft brush. I'm not using an abrasive scrubber on my beautiful, new stainless steel cookware.

All the Pyrex pots and skillets can be put into the oven up to 350 degrees but I have never done it in the past with my old Revere set. Knowing this, I feel safer using my new set on the stovetop. Also, they are all dishwater safe; however, because they take up so much space, I have never put any of my pots and skillets in the dishwater. Also, I prefer to wash them by hand. (Why would I put them in the dishwasher when they are so easy to clean?) The only problem I had was that the long handles made the cooking ware cumbersome to store in my cabinets but I managed. My cabinets, I must mention, are very outdated and need replacing.

Thanks to Pyrex, I no longer dread preparing dinner when I come home after work or church. Pyrex has made stove top cooking much more enjoyable. I highly recommend the Pyrex Stainless Steel 10 Piece Set for bachelors like myself who don't want to eat out all the time.
